Preschool Information

Class Dates & Times Our school year begins on September 4th. We meet Tuesdays & Thursdays from 12:30-2:30. We will follow the Alpine School District Calendar for holidays and breaks.

Location Miss Tiff’s Polliwogs Preschool is located in American Fork, Utah near Forbes Elementary. Please contact Miss Tiff for the address.

Curriculum I am familiar with Kindergarten curriculum and teach many skills to have the students ready for Kindergarten. I focus heavily on reading and writing. We will work on colors, numbers, shapes, the alphabet, phonemic sounds, recognizing and writing our names, cutting, gluing, and many other kindergarten readiness skills.  We also practice making friends, sharing and playing nicely with others, staying on task, listening, following directions, respect, and working in groups.  I also have the goal of teaching the children a variety of “mental tools” so they can master self-regulation. Current research shows that self-regulation has an even stronger association with academic achievement than IQ. I believe that the combination of these skills will help my students be well prepared for the challenge of Kindergarten.

Behavior & Discipline My goal as a teacher is to provide a fun, safe, and positive learning environment.  I use a lot of positive reinforcement and praise, looking for students doing the right thing.  If a student is being disruptive to the class and learning, a warning will be given with the instruction on what to do to improve the behavior.  If the disruption continues, I will remove the child from the situation for a short amount of time. I also talk to the student about the behavior and what to do differently next time, always trying to focus on what is good behavior.  Eventually, my goal is that students begin to regulate their own behavior and the behaviors of their friends. I believe students excel when they know the boundaries and are reinforced when positive things are happening.  If there is an extenuating circumstance, parents will be notified.

Daily Routine I try to follow a routine as much as possible so the students know what to expect everyday.  However, it will change periodically depending on what activities we have going on. On most days, we will follow this routine.

  12:30-12:45 Center Time/One-on-One Time

  12:45-1:00 Circle Time & Calendar

1:00-1:30 Literacy Instruction & Intentional    Play

  1:30-1:50 Snack & Free Play
1:50-2:20 Math, Science, Art, and/or Music & Movement
2:20-2:30 Community Circle & Read Aloud
Snacks I will provide snacks for preschool on Tuesday.  On Thursday, one student will be in charge of bringing a snack for the class.  I will send home a "snack sack" the day before your student needs to provide the snack to help remind you.

Monthly Calendars The last preschool day of each month I will send home a calendar with important events and information for the upcoming month.  I will also include what we'll be learning each day, sharing days, and who's responsible for snacks.

Tuition The $45 monthly tuition is due the first preschool day of each month. A $10 late fee will be added to tuition received after the 15th of the month. Tuition is based on the entire school year. Shorter months and breaks are all taken into account in the calculation of the yearly tuition cost.

1st Semester Supply Fee A $30 non-refundable supply fee is due at the time of registration. This will help me provide each child with the necessary supplies in his/her school box, and will cover snacks and supplies for the first semester, September-December.

2nd Semester Supply Fee This $25 supply fee is due with January tuition and will cover snacks and supplies for the second semester of school, January-May.
